The Empire Theatre  was built and opened in 1940 as a movie theater. The 280-seat, art deco movie theater closed in 1958. During the next forty years, it was used on an annual basis to entertain during the Slippery Gulch Days Celebration of the City of Tekoa, with many, hardworking and committed volunteers. The Theatre was reopened in the year 2000 by a group of caring individuals that wanted to see it restored. It is now used as a Performing Arts Center for the county and surrounding areas.
